Mattress Jargon

Sometimes it can be quite confusing buying a mattress and understanding the meaning of some of the terms and descriptions you see written. Here we have tried to help explain some of those terms and make it easier for you to buy a mattress on-line.

Memory Foam Mattresses:

Memory Foam Mattresses are made to work with your body. The heat from your body heats the foam and it then moulds to your body shape, giving you extra support for a peaceful nights sleep. The mattresses then revert back to their original form once you get out of bed. We sell a wide range of memory foam mattresses from all the top manufacturers. Many of our memory foam mattresses are available for next day delivery.

Pocket Sprung Mattresses:

Pocket Sprung Mattresses offer a very comfy mattress to sleep on. These mattresses contour to your bodies shape offering superb support and a great nights sleep. A pocket sprung mattress is made up of individual springs each in it's own fabric pocket. This allows each spring to react individually to your bodies movement.

Sprung and Memory Foam Mattresses:

Sprung and Memory Foam Mattresses are a combination of two of the comfiest types of mattresses. Combining the support of memory foam with comfort of a sprung mattress. These mattresses are normally designed with a base of either pocket springs or coil springs with a layer of memory foam on top. These mattresses offer one of the highest levels of comfort.

Coil Sprung Mattresses:

Coil Sprung Mattresses are made up of open springs or bonnell spring which are in the shape of an hour glass, these springs are then held in place by a wire frame. These mattresses offer a very cost effective, comfy nights sleep and are idea as a guest mattress or for a spare room.

Orthopaedic Mattresses:

Orthopaedic Mattresses tend to be mattresses that offer a greater level of support and are firmer than a standard mattress. Orthopaedic mattresses are a good choice if you like a firmer mattress or if you suffer from a back back due to soft mattresses.

Latex Mattresses:

Latex Mattresses are a good alternative to memory foam mattresses. Where as with memory foam it's your body heat that heats to mould the foam to your bodies shape with latex it's simply your bodies weight. If you are a hot sleeper or prefer a cool nights sleep then latex can be a great alternative to a memory foam mattress.

Along with the many different types of mattresses they are also available with several different covers and finishes. Below you will find the different finishes and covers that mattresses come in and a brief break down to explain what these are.

Vents:

Some mattresses have small vents in the sides of them. These are to help with airflow within and through the mattress. This helps to keep the mattress cooler and in turn makes for a more comfortable nights sleep.

Hypo-Allergenic:

There are some mattresses that have hypo-allergenic and anti-allergy features. These mattresses are ideal for people who suffer from asthma and allergies brought on from dust mites and other annoyances.

Damask Cover:

A damask cover is woven with a single warp yarn and a single weft yarn. A damask cover on a mattress is a sign of quality.
